Cleanup - Dogwood Rd & Dogwood Run Stream
Organized by: GPCA with cooperation from Patapsco Heritage Greenway & Baltimore County Government
We’re taking advantage of the road closure for the Dogwood Run Bridge Replacement project. It includes two main efforts:
- Roadside cleanup.
- Stream and bank cleanup - this will be In & Along an Active Stream!
Decide before hand which cleanup effort you want to participate in (Road or Stream) - so you have the proper clothing, footwear, etc. Information Flyer for Cleanup HERE.
IMPORTANT: Remember there are roads closed and detour routes to and in the cleanup area
WE ALL MUST KEEP SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS!!!
You’ll need the following equipment:
- Sturdy Boots – waterproof suggested – must have for stream cleanup
- Eye protection – twigs, vines, brambles are everywhere
- Long Pants, & Long Sleeve Shirt
- Work Gloves
Things you might also like to have:
- Hat
- Insect Repent
- Small garden clippers to deal with vines and sticker plants
- “Grabber” or a small garden rake to reach litter might be helpful
- Water bottle
- Change of clothes for after the event – in case of bramble “stickers” or getting wet
We will supply:
- Safety Vest
- Directions & Marking of the cleanup areas and identified “hot spots”
- Trash bags
- Latex gloves
- Some light snacks and beverages
Meet and Park:

7919 Dogwood Rd, Windsor Mill, MD 21244
- Access from Ridge Rd. /Rolling Rd. side of the Dogwood Run Bridge Closure/Detour. You can’t access the cleanup site from the Dogwood Rd / Hollifield Rd side
- Orange cones will mark the site
- Park behind the barn
- Then check-in at the sign in table
Sign In Table:
- Sign the roster
- Bring any applicable service learning forms (or email them to gpca21163@gmail.com ahead of time).
- Indicate whether you want to cleanup at the roadside or stream
- Pickup
- Safety vest
- Disposable gloves
- Trash bags
- This is where you’ll find light snacks and beverages
- We have a First Aid Kit for minor cuts and scrapes at the table
Safety:
- Choose a buddy – you’ll keep an eye out for each other – really important with roadside cleanup
- Even with the road closed there will be some traffic – stay alert and use your buddy to spot traffic
- Although the site is largely open, many sections have dense growths of brush, vines & brambles to contend with so… eye protection is a must
- Never collect materials or objects that appear to be hazardous – not sure about something, see what your buddy thinks
- Also work with your buddy to remove heavy or bulky items
Before We Get Started We’ll all gather briefly for:
- Announcements – Reminders
- Designated Collection Areas
- Coordinate Sections and Assign "Hot Spots"
- Make sure you have a buddy
